Income-qualified Ameren Illinois households in single-family homes get a free home energy assessment and free energy-saving products, and may get insulation, air sealing, ventilation, heating upgrades and a switch from propane to electric heat at little to no cost.

The assessment is free. Upgrades are recommended from the assessment and installed by a Program Ally at little to no cost to the household; the program does not publish a dollar amount per measure.
Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 5 of these.
Ameren Illinois residential customer heating with gas or electricity delivered by Ameren Illinois, or an Ameren Illinois residential electric customer heating with propane. The propane-to-electric switch is for Ameren Illinois electric customers who heat with propane.
A single-family home (a free-standing house or a duplex).
Gross annual household income must be under a maximum that depends on household size and location. Ameren does not publish the limits on its site; check them with the online eligibility tool.
Homeowners must send proof of ownership. Renters in a single-family home or duplex can apply with a Property Owner Consent Form signed by the landlord.

How to apply
All Program paperwork must be submitted by December 31, 2026. Get approved before you buy anything.
- Check eligibility and apply.
Use the online eligibility tool, or email the printable application (English or Spanish) to IllinoisResidentialEE@ameren.com.
- Send proof of ownership or landlord consent.
A real estate tax bill, warranty deed or approved homestead exemption form; renters send the Property Owner Consent Form signed by both parties.
- Application approval.
The application is reviewed once all documents are received.
- Free Home Energy Assessment.
An Energy Advisor visits, installs free LED bulbs, aerators and a power strip, and identifies upgrades. Propane-heated homes get a report on whether switching to electric would lower the bill.
- Program Ally completes the work.
A Program Ally contractor makes an introductory visit, then completes the upgrades.
- Quality control visit.
A Quality Control Specialist checks the work.

Will switching from propane to electric raise my bill?
You get a report first. After the free assessment and before the upgrades are installed, each customer receives a report showing whether the switch to electric will reduce the energy bill.
