Weatherization Loans (Tideland EMC)

Tideland EMC makes 5% interest loans to creditworthy members for heat pumps, efficient water heaters, insulation, windows, doors and weatherstripping in existing homes, repaid on the electric bill over up to five years, with a free energy audit.

How much you get
5% interest, repaid on the monthly electric bill: up to 24 months for loans up to $5,000, up to 36 months for $5,000-$10,000, up to 60 months for $10,000 or more. Loans over $10,000 need a deed of trust. DIY installs: materials only. No maximum loan amount is published.
Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 4 of these.
Tideland EMC member for at least 12 months with service in the member's name.
The property must be titled in the member's name (individually or jointly).
Existing homes only.
Creditworthy: no bankruptcy in the last 5 years, credit bureau report and Tideland credit rating, and the means to repay.

The program sets these minimums for heat pumps.

Minimum 15 SEER, sized to ASHRAE standards.
Applying
How to apply
You apply in person.
- Contact Tideland EMC's loan officer.
- Free Tideland EMC energy audit to pick the measures with the greatest savings.
- Get contractor quotes.
Heating and cooling quotes need a heat gain/heat loss calculation from the installer.
- After approval, finish the improvements within 90 days.
The loan check is payable to you and the contractor; payments are added to your electric bill.
