Solar Electric Generating System and Electric Energy Storage Property Tax Abatement (NYC)
Run by NYC Department of Buildings (approves applications) and NYC Department of Finance (applies the abatement)
New York City property owners who install solar panels and/or battery storage can cut their property tax for four years by up to 7.5% of the installation cost each year, capped at the year's tax bill or $62,500.
Amounts
How much you get
For systems placed in service from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2034, each year of the four-year compliance period the abatement is the lesser of 7.5% of eligible solar and/or storage expenditures, that year's property tax, or $62,500. Eligible expenditures are materials, installation labor, and architectural and engineering costs; they exclude interest and anything paid with a federal, state or local grant. Unused abatement can't be carried over to a later year.
