Run by NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority)

NYSERDA loans of $1,500 to $25,000 for solar panels, heat pumps and energy efficiency work on one- to four-family New York homes, repaid through your utility bill over 5, 10 or 15 years, with a balance that can pass to the next owner.

Open Checked Oct 26, 2026

Amounts

How much you get

A loan, not a rebate: $1,500 to $25,000, with a 5, 10 or 15 year term, paid back on your utility bill. Your estimated average monthly energy cost savings must be greater than the monthly loan payment. Loans over $13,000 must have a payback period under 15 years. The interest rate depends on household income and location (NYSERDA's rate estimator) and is set after a credit review.

Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 5 of these.

  • You must own the home and be named on the utility account.

  • Existing one- to four-family homes. Stand-alone additions, new construction and gut rehabs are not eligible.

  • The home must be served by a participating utility: Central Hudson, Con Edison, PSEG Long Island, NYSEG, National Grid (upstate only), Orange & Rockland or RG&E. PSEG Long Island electric customers apply directly through their utility.

  • You need a no-cost home energy assessment first, and the work goes through a NYSERDA program (Comfort Home, EmPower+, NY-Sun, NYS Clean Heat or PSEG Long Island's Home Performance and Home Comfort programs) with a participating contractor.

What to doGet the no-cost energy assessment through your participating contractor before applying for the loan.
