Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 4 of these, plus one that applies only in some cases.

  • Con Edison gas customer connected to a gas service line due for replacement (mostly pre-1972 services). Gas customers in Staten Island and Brooklyn aren't eligible.

  • Your home must fully disconnect from the gas system; all gas uses must be converted to electric.

  • Work must be done by an approved Participating Contractor with permits filed and pass Con Edison inspection.

What to doChoose from the list of approved contractors Con Edison sends once your eligibility is confirmed.

  • There is a 15-year recourse period during which you may be financially liable for Con Edison's investment in the property.

  • Only in some cases

If you heat with gas, the heating system must be electrified before or alongside this program (space heating isn't paid for here).

What to doConvert your gas heating to heat pumps, for example through the Con Edison Clean Heat Program, before or while applying.

Equipment

What equipment counts

The program sets these minimums.

  • All eligible appliances must be ENERGY STAR listed.

Applying

How to apply

Your contractor applies for you. Get approved before you buy anything.

  1. Submit an interest form.

Con Edison checks whether your gas service line is on its eligibility list.

  2. Choose an approved Participating Contractor.

You'll get a list once eligibility is confirmed and a dedicated Account Manager.

  3. Get a free home assessment and upgrade recommendations.
  4. The contractor installs the electric appliances and submits proof of installation.

The incentive is applied as an instant discount; you pay the contractor any difference.

  5. Your gas account is closed and the gas service disconnected.

NYSERDA programs used on the same project (Comfort Home, EmPower+) must be disclosed. Gas space heating conversion goes through Clean Heat.
