Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 7 of these.

  • Each dwelling unit must be owned or controlled (renting counts) by a Central Hudson electric customer with an active account that pays the System Benefits Charge.

  • Existing homes with one to four units, or one to four apartments in a larger building whose owners don't control the whole building. Manufactured homes are generally eligible for retrofit projects (contact the program for exact rules).

  • Air-source heat pumps qualify only in existing homes (including gut renovations); new construction qualifies only for ground-source heat pumps.

  • The heat pump must be installed by a NYS Clean Heat Participating Contractor, who submits the application.

  • The system must be new, sized to meet 100% of the home's heating load, and no new fossil-fuel equipment may be installed with it. Air-source units must be on the NEEP cold-climate list; ground-source units must meet ENERGY STAR.

  • The dwelling unit can't have already received NYS Clean Heat full-load incentives, and projects adding to an existing full-load heat pump system don't qualify. Homes that got partial-load incentives before can apply for full-load incentives.

  • Optional: homes that qualify for the Weatherized Tier get higher incentives — homes built after 2010, homes that completed a qualifying weatherization package (for Central Hudson: a qualifying utility or NYSERDA Comfort Home weatherization package), or homes whose heating load per square foot is below the program standard.

What to doWeatherize first (for example through a qualifying utility or NYSERDA Comfort Home weatherization package or NYSERDA Comfort Home) so the project qualifies for the Weatherized Tier.

Equipment

What equipment counts

The program sets these minimums.

  • Listed by NEEP as a cold-climate ASHP (ccASHP), tested under AHRI 210/240, single-phase, cooling capacity under 65,000 Btu/h; sized for 100% of the building heating load.

  • Each heat pump must meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR Geothermal Heat Pump specification; must meet 100% of the load at design conditions.

Applying

How to apply

Your contractor applies for you. The contractor must submit the application within 60 days of installation.

  1. Choose a NYS Clean Heat certified contractor.

They size the system to your full heating load and work out your rebate.

  2. Weatherize first if you can.

Homes built after 2010, homes that finished a qualifying insulation and air sealing package, or homes that meet the heating-load standard get the higher Weatherized Tier rebate.

  3. Contractor installs the system and completes the rebate application.

Required within 60 days of installation.

  4. Receive the rebate.

As an instant discount from the contractor, or a check in the mail five to seven weeks after the application is submitted.

FAQ

Questions

How much does Central Hudson NYS Clean Heat Heat Pump Rebates pay?

$1,000 to $20,000, depending on what you install. The table under How much you get lists each amount.

Do I need to be a Central Hudson Gas & Electric customer?

Yes. It’s only for homes in Central Hudson Gas & Electric customers, New York. See Do I qualify for the details.

Do I have to use a contractor?

Yes. The heat pump must be installed by a NYS Clean Heat Participating Contractor, who submits the application.

What’s the deadline?

No fixed deadline. Apply any time while it’s open.

Is it still available?

Yes. It was open when we last checked, on October 26, 2026.

Does a heat pump that heats only part of my home qualify?

No. Only systems sized to meet the full heating load of the home qualify; adding capacity to an existing partial-load system to reach full load has its own incentive.

Can I keep my old furnace or boiler as a backup?

Yes, with the lower full-load incentive; removing (decommissioning) the old fossil-fuel system earns the higher incentive, and installing new fossil-fuel equipment with the heat pump isn't allowed.

Are manufactured homes eligible?

Generally yes, for retrofit projects. Contact the program administrator for the exact rules and amounts.
