Sales Tax Exemption for Solar Energy Equipment
Run by New Jersey Division of Taxation (Department of the Treasury)
Solar energy devices and systems that provide heating, cooling, electricity or mechanical power, including devices that store solar-generated energy, are exempt from New Jersey Sales Tax. A homeowner gives the seller a completed Form ST-4 instead of paying the tax.
Amounts
How much you get
No New Jersey Sales Tax on qualifying solar energy equipment, so the saving is the sales tax that would otherwise apply to the purchase price. Items the home needs regardless of energy source, like insulation, aren't covered.
