You need to meet all 4 of these.

  • Idaho Power residential customer with the electric service in your name, not enrolled in another demand response program.

  • A/C Cycling: a central air conditioner or air source heat pump in good working order. Water-source heat pumps, ductless heat pumps, two-stage units, evaporative coolers and window units don't qualify.

  • Smart Thermostat option: central air or a ducted heat pump controlled by a qualified smart thermostat (ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Sensi or Amazon models) that stays connected to the internet.

What to doInstall a qualifying smart thermostat (Idaho Power's Heating and Cooling Efficiency Program pays $50 toward one in homes with electric forced-air heat or a heat pump), then enroll.

  • Renters can take part in A/C Cycling with a landlord approval form.

What to doAsk for the landlord approval form by calling 1-866-865-COOL (2665) and have your landlord sign it.

Applying

How to apply

Enroll any time. A/C cycling switches must be installed by the 15th of June, July or August to earn a credit on the next month's bill.

  1. Pick an option.

A/C Cycling (a switch installed at your outdoor unit) or Smart Thermostat Demand Response (if a qualifying smart thermostat controls your central air or ducted heat pump).

  2. Enroll.

For A/C Cycling, use the online enrollment form or call 1-866-865-COOL (2665). For the smart thermostat option, choose your thermostat brand on the A/C Cool Credit page and complete the short form, or enroll in your thermostat's app.

    Go to tools.idahopower.com

  3. Get set up.

A licensed HVAC technician installs the cycling device outside; you don't need to be home. Smart thermostat customers get an email confirming enrollment.

Events run on select summer weekdays, usually late afternoon or evening, for up to four hours. You can opt out of an event.

  5. Receive credits.
