Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 3 of these.
MidAmerican Energy residential customer in its Iowa service territory. MidAmerican must provide the primary electricity to appliances; for smart thermostats, MidAmerican must provide the primary heating or cooling fuel (gas or electric).
Smart thermostats must replace an existing manual or programmable thermostat and be installed, on Wi-Fi and registered with the manufacturer before applying.
Equipment must be new and purchased, installed and operating between January 1 and December 31, 2026.

What equipment counts
The program sets these minimums for appliances, water heaters and furnaces, ac and thermostats.
ENERGY STAR certified; refrigerators and freezers 10 cubic feet or larger.
- Heat pump water heaters
≤120 gallons; 240 volts ≥3.3 UEF, 120 volts and split systems ≥2.2 UEF.
- Thermostats
ENERGY STAR certified, connected to Wi-Fi and registered with the manufacturer.
Applying
How to apply
You apply online. Apply within 90 days of purchase or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
- Buy and install qualifying ENERGY STAR equipment.
Or buy a smart thermostat on the MidAmerican marketplace with the discount already applied (no rebate application then).
- Apply online within 90 days.
Upload an itemized sales receipt or invoice. Apply within 90 days of purchase or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first. Email energyexpert@midamerican.com or call 877-932-0616 for a paper application.
- Receive the rebate.
Allow up to 14 days once the application and documents are received.
