Solar and Energy Equipment Property Tax Exemption (Arizona)
Run by Arizona Department of Revenue and county assessors
In Arizona, home solar energy systems are considered to add no value to your property for property tax purposes. Renewable energy equipment and qualifying energy efficient building components also add no value if you send your county assessor the cost documentation in time.
Amounts
How much you get
Full exclusion. The solar system, or the qualifying renewable equipment or energy efficient building components, adds nothing to your home's full cash value, so it doesn't raise your property tax.
Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 3 of these.
Your home is in Arizona.
Solar energy devices, grid-tied photovoltaic systems and other systems that produce solar energy primarily for on-site use are automatically considered to add no value.
For renewable energy equipment other than solar, energy efficient building components and combined heat and power systems, the exclusion applies only if you give the county assessor documentation, including actual acquisition and installation costs, on time.
What to doSend your county assessor documentation of each qualifying component, including what you paid to buy and install it, no later than six months before the notice of full cash value is issued for the first valuation year, or by March 31 of that year if the component was added after September 30 of the year before.

How to apply
Solar: automatic. Other equipment and efficiency components: documentation due to the county assessor six months before the notice of full cash value for the first valuation year (or by March 31 if added after September 30 of the prior year).
- Solar systems need no application.
State law says on-site solar systems add no value to the property. Check your notice of value from the county assessor.
- For efficiency components or other renewable equipment, send documents to your county assessor.
Include documentation of every qualifying element and the actual acquisition and installation costs. Deadline is six months before the notice of full cash value for the first valuation year, or March 31 of that year if the component was added after September 30 of the prior year.
