FAQ
Questions
How much does Cool Rewards Smart Thermostat Program (APS) pay?
$35 to $50, depending on what you install. The table under How much you get lists each amount.
Do I need to be a APS customer?
Yes. It’s only for homes in APS customers, Arizona. See Do I qualify for the details.
Is it still available?
Yes. It was open when we last checked, on October 27, 2026.
Can I opt out of a conservation event?
Yes. Adjust your thermostat up or down in the app, a web browser or at the thermostat at any time during an event.
Can I take part if I have rooftop solar?
Yes. APS warns that grandfathered solar customers on a frozen plan with on-peak hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. or noon to 7 p.m. could see higher on-peak use and costs.
Do I need a particular APS service plan?
No. Any APS residential service plan can participate.
What happens if I move?
Unenroll the thermostat at the old home and re-enroll it at the new one. If you leave it behind, the new owner has to enroll it.
How do I leave the program?
Email aps@energyhub.com asking to end your participation. That ends participation and annual credits for all your enrolled thermostats.
Does the bill credit lower my Budget Billing payment?
Not directly. The credit shows under "Other charges and credits" and is applied to that month's energy cost; Budget Billing picks it up when the payment is recalculated.
