FAQ
Questions
How much does GMP Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Home Battery Program pay?
$100 to $950, depending on what you install. The table under How much you get lists each amount.
Do I need to be a Green Mountain Power customer?
Yes. It’s only for homes in Green Mountain Power customers, Vermont. See Do I qualify for the details.
Do I need approval before I buy?
The battery must stay connected to the internet so GMP can dispatch it during peak events (about five to eight a month, three to six hours each). If GMP loses connection, you have 30 days to restore it. Keep the battery system on your home internet connection.
Is it still available?
Yes. It was open when we last checked, on October 26, 2026.
Will I still have backup power during an outage?
Yes. When weather that could cause outages is forecast, GMP takes steps so you have the backup power you need, and tries not to fully drain your battery for grid needs.
Is there an extra fee for SolarEdge systems?
Yes. A monthly communication fee of $6.67 is added to your GMP bill for systems using a StorEdge inverter.
How often does GMP use my battery?
About five to eight peak events a month, three to six hours at a time. You get at least four hours' notice through an app or other electronic message.
How is the incentive paid?
The incentive is paid once, up front.
How long is the commitment, and what if I leave early?
The term is 10 years. If you leave the program early, you pay back a prorated amount for the time left on the term.
