Efficiency Vermont Home Performance with ENERGY STAR for Rental Property Owners
Run by Efficiency Vermont
Owners of Vermont rental properties with one to four units get 75% of insulation and air sealing costs back through an Efficiency Excellence Network contractor, up to $3,000 per building, or up to $7,000 per unit when most units rent at low or moderate rates.
Amounts
How much you get
75% of project costs, up to $3,000 per building, or up to $7,000 per unit when 50% or more of the units are rented at low or moderate rent levels (for example, a three-unit building at a low predominant rent level can get up to $21,000). The amount depends on which of these fits your install.
| What you install | You get |
|---|---|
| Low and moderate rent levels (per unit) | 75% |
| High rent level (per building) | 75% |
Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 6 of these.
For owners of rental properties.
Existing long-term rentals (rented more than six months continuously per year) and short-term rentals with one to four units. All units must participate and the project must take a whole-building approach.
Properties served by Vermont Gas Systems and/or Burlington Electric Department get their rebate from that utility (VGS (802) 863-4511 x321; BED (802) 865-7300).
A participating Efficiency Excellence Network contractor must oversee the work and do all required testing.
What to doHire an Efficiency Excellence Network weatherization contractor.
The project must reduce air leakage by at least 10% (blower door tested) and include all recommended health and safety improvements, unless a qualifying project was already done for the property.
What to doHave your contractor scope the project to meet the air leakage target and include health and safety work.
The rebate level is set by rent levels (attested by the owner); an owner-occupied unit uses the owner's income instead of rent. Buildings mixing short-term rental units with long-term or owner-occupied units are treated as high rent.
