RESTORE (Residential Emergency Services to Offer Home Repairs to the Elderly)
Run by New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), through Local Program Administrators
Homeowners aged 60 and over with household income up to 100% of area median income can get up to $20,000 for emergency repairs, including repair or replacement of a failed heating or cooling system, through a local nonprofit or municipality that has RESTORE funding.
Amounts
How much you get
Grants for emergency repairs of up to $20,000 per property, for one or more repairs within the three-year regulatory period. Paid through the Local Program Administrator.
Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 6 of these.
Your home is in New York.
You must be 60 or older.
You must own and live in the home as your primary residence (1-4 unit homes; in a multi-unit building only your unit and common areas).
Household income no more than 100% of area median income.
The repair must be an emergency - the system is non-functional or a hazard that threatens your health or safety or the home's livability. Non-emergency and cosmetic work isn't covered.
Homeowners can't apply to HCR directly; you apply to a local nonprofit or municipality that currently has RESTORE funds, which aren't available in every county.
