Florida Property Tax Exclusion for Renewable Energy Devices

Run by Florida county property appraisers, under section 193.624, Florida Statutes

In Florida, the value that solar panels, inverters, solar water heating, batteries and other renewable energy equipment add to a home isn't counted when the county assesses the home for property tax. Applies to equipment installed on or after January 1, 2013, on new and existing homes.

Open Checked Oct 27, 2026

Amounts

How much you get

For a home, 100% of the value the renewable energy equipment adds is left out of the assessed value.

Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 3 of these.

  • Your home is in Florida.

  • Residential property. Nonresidential property gets an 80% exclusion instead.

  • The device must collect, transmit, store or use solar, wind or geothermal energy (or biogas), and be installed on or after January 1, 2013. Conventional backup systems don't count.

Applying

How to apply

You apply in person. The current wording of the residential rule runs through December 31, 2037; after that the law reverts to excluding only the increase in value from installation.

  1. Install a qualifying renewable energy device.
  2. Check with your county property appraiser.

The appraiser leaves the device's value out of the home's assessed value. Ask whether they need any form or proof of installation.
