Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 4 of these, plus one that applies only in some cases.

  • SDG&E residential electric customer with an active account; the vehicle must be registered at that service address (the account can be in someone else's name). CCA and Direct Access customers qualify.

  • A used battery-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle bought or leased on or after January 1, 2024; for applications from April 16, 2026, a battery of at least 8 kWh. No fuel cell, CNG, neighborhood vehicles or electric motorcycles.

  • For the $4,000 Rebate Plus only: either enrollment in an eligible public assistance program at the date of purchase or lease, or household gross income within the limits for your household size and county, based on California HCD State Income Limits (look them up by zip code at evrebates.sdge.com/program-requirements). Income is verified with IRS Form 4506-C. Applicants claimed as a dependent, or with the car registered to a trust, can't get Rebate Plus.

  • Keep the vehicle in California for at least 20 consecutive months (leases at least 20 months).

  • Only in some cases

Only one SDG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate per household over the life of the program; not for a vehicle that already got an SCE or PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate or a California Clean Fuel Reward.

Do I need to be a SDG&E customer?

Yes. It’s only for homes in SDG&E customers, California. See Do I qualify for the details.

Is there an income limit?

For the $4,000 Rebate Plus only: either enrollment in an eligible public assistance program at the date of purchase or lease, or household gross income within the limits for your household size and county, based on California HCD State Income Limits (look them up by zip code at evrebates.sdge.com/program-requirements). Income is verified with IRS Form 4506-C. Applicants claimed as a dependent, or with the car registered to a trust, can't get Rebate Plus.

No fixed deadline. Apply any time while it’s open.

Is it still available?

Yes. It was open when we last checked, on October 27, 2026.

What if I don't have my own SDG&E bill because I pay my landlord for electricity?

You can still apply. Email ev@sdgerebate.com for a placeholder account number to use on the application.

Does the SDG&E account have to be in my name?

No. The account can be in another person's name, as long as the vehicle is registered at that service address.

I got a rebate from SCE or PG&E for this car. Can I get SDG&E's too?

No. A vehicle that already received another utility's pre-owned EV rebate isn't eligible.
