Eligibility
Do I qualify?
You need to meet all 3 of these.
SCE residential (or business) customer with an Edison SmartConnect meter, on rate D, D-CARE, D-FERA, TOU-D or TOU-D-T (or an eligible business rate).
A Wi-Fi smart thermostat from SCE's qualifying list, connected to the internet and controlling a working central air conditioner.
What to doBuy and install a qualifying smart thermostat (the list is on the program page, or search the SCE Marketplace) on a working central A/C, then enroll it.
Can't also be on the Summer Discount Plan, Capacity Bidding Program Elect, Critical Peak Pricing, a Medical Baseline allocation for air conditioning, or a third-party demand response program. The $75 bonus is for new enrollments only, one per service account, and not for a thermostat received free from an SCE program such as ESA.
What to doLeave the conflicting demand response program or rate before enrolling.

FAQ
Questions
How much does Smart Energy Program smart thermostat bill credits (SCE) pay?
$50 to $75, depending on what you install. The table under How much you get lists each amount.
Do I need to be a SCE customer?
Yes. It’s only for homes in SCE customers, California. See Do I qualify for the details.
What’s the deadline?
No fixed deadline. Apply any time while it’s open.
Is it still available?
Yes. It was open when we last checked, on October 27, 2026.
Can I opt out of an energy event?
Yes. Change the temperature at the thermostat or in its app; overriding every event in a year can affect your enrollment.
Does SCE control my thermostat directly?
No. SCE's Authorized Service Provider, EnergyHub, works with your thermostat maker to run events; SCE doesn't have direct access to your thermostat.
Can I be on the Summer Discount Plan at the same time?
No. Customers enrolled in the Summer Discount Plan aren't eligible for the Smart Energy Program, because both control the same A/C load.
Can I be removed from the program?
Yes. If your meter never shows at least 1.5 kWh of use in the hour before or after an event during a calendar year, SCE removes you and you must wait a year to re-enroll.
