Amounts

How much you get

The county pays for the approved emergency repair. Assistance counts toward a lifetime limit of $25,000, and a household can't get help twice within 12 months. Funding is limited, and the page doesn't publish a per-repair maximum.

Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 6 of these.

  • Your home is in Maricopa County, Arizona.

  • The home must be in the program service area. That's all of Maricopa County except the cities of Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tempe, which run their own programs. County islands inside those cities are eligible.

  • You must own the home and have lived in it as your primary residence for one year before applying.

  • Household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income for Maricopa County ($62,950 for one person to $118,700 for eight, effective June 1, 2026). Household liquid assets can't exceed $12,000.

  • The home must have a qualifying repair need, such as a non-functioning air conditioner or heater, and you must provide a crisis statement. You must be current on property taxes, mortgage and HOA dues, and show lawful presence in the United States.

  • No program assistance in the past 12 months, and the $25,000 lifetime limit not yet reached.

Applying

How to apply

You apply online. Get approved before you buy anything.

  1. Check the service area and income limits.

The program doesn't serve most residents of the larger cities, which have their own programs.

  2. Apply online.

Submit the Emergency Home Repair application with a crisis statement and the required documents.

    Go to maricopa.gov

  3. The county prioritizes applications.

This isn't first come, first served. Broken cooling or heating during extreme temperatures, a household member 62 or older, a member with a disability, and a child under 6 get priority.

  4. The county arranges the repair.
