Alabama Power customers who own or lease a plug-in electric vehicle get a discount of 1.7155 cents per kWh on electricity used between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. under the EV Night Charging Discount (PEV Rate Rider). Enrollment is renewed every year.

How much you get

A 1.7155 cent per kWh discount off the kWh charge of your current rate plan for electricity used between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The savings depend on how much you use overnight.

Eligibility

Do I qualify?

You need to meet all 3 of these.

  • Must take service under the Family Dwelling, Family Dwelling Demand, Residential Time Advantage-Demand or Residential Time Advantage-Energy rate.

  • Must own or lease a plug-in electric vehicle made primarily for public streets, roads and highways (not scooters, e-bikes, golf carts or motorized wheelchairs), proven by a tag receipt or proof of insurance with your name and address.

  • Participants must renew their enrollment every year.

Applying

How to apply

You apply online.

  1. Check you're on an eligible rate.
  2. Sign up online and upload a tag receipt or proof of insurance.

    Employer-owned leases need the lease agreement and a signed Employer-Owned Lease Certification Form.

    Go to alabamapower.com

  3. Charge between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to get the discount.
  4. Renew your enrollment every year.
